Project Description
The Vermont Community Energy Mobilization (VCEM) pilot project in the Mad River Valley was completed in March and April of 2008. Community volunteers were trained by Efficiency Vermont to perform in-house energy efficiency assessments at the homes of MRV residents who wished to participate. Using materials provided free-of-cost by Efficiency Vermont, the VCEM project harnessed the spirit of more than 35 valley residents to directly implement a variety of energy-saving products in residents' homes.
Current Status of Project
This project was completed in March and April of 2009. We are currently awaiting an announcement from Efficiency Vermont to detail the overall estimated cost savings and reductions in greenhouse gases acheived from our community's participation in the project.

Success stories
By mobilizing and training community volunteers, the VCEM project was able to reach out to almost 70 homes in the Mad River Valley. Over 35 volunteers actively participated in the home visits, many of whom reported that it was actually quite fun to team up with another volunteer for each home visit. In addition to helping their neighbors save energy and reduce CO2 emissions, volunteers often reported having lots of fun, interesting conversation and the formation of new friendships!
Funding Sources
This project was funded entirely by Efficiency Vermont, who provided training for volunteers and a wide variety of energy-saving products (CFL's, low-flow shower heads, hot water pipe insulation, water heater tank wraps, etc.) - the only thing contributed by MRV residents was time and enthusiasm!
